CNA Schools

Attending one of the many CNA schools and becoming a CNA is an excellent choice. Certified Nursing Assistants, or CNAs, have the responsibility to take care of basic and ordinary patient care. Various duties are assigned to them, depending on where they work and their experience. However, usually these duties include things like grooming, helping patients dress, measuring intake and output, keeping track of vital signs, feeding patients, and observing emotional, mental, and physical conditions.

Because of the duties that are expected from a CNA, training from CNA schools is required. After training, then the certificate test can be taken, and once you have the certificate, you are ready to work. The training required is not overly difficult. In fact, most people are surprised to find out the training usually only lasts a few weeks.

There are a variety of CNA schools out there that provide this training. Often you’ll find the training at community colleges, nursing homes, and Red Cross facilities. Good CNA schools will provide you with both plenty of classroom instruction as well as clinical practice. You’ll be learning a lot of important information in the classroom, then you’ll be taking that information and putting it into practice on patients. To be able to take the certification test, you’ll need to have 50 hours of instruction in the classroom, as well clinical practice for at least 100 hours.

Not only will you need the 150 hour training program from one of the CNA schools in order to get your certifications, but you’ll have to complete and pass the exam, pass a TB test, have a health screening, and pass a criminal background check as well. Also, now days you are required to do in service training for 48 hours each year in order to keep your license up to date.

Once you have your certificate from one of the CNA schools out there, you will be on your way to a great new career. The job outlook for CNAs is great. As the baby boomers get older, the demand for medical professionals is expected to increase. The jobs are expect to increase by at least 20,000 in the next year. This is definitely a job that is “recession proof.”
